Coquet Island Boat Trip. Sunday 28th May 2017
Nine intrepid adventurers assembled at Amble Harbour for our 6 pm sailing to and around Coquet Island. Our skipper Dave Gray and his daughter who own and run 'Puffin Cruises' welcomed us aboard our vessel a restored 41ft Watson Class RNLI lifeboat. We slipped our moorings and headed out into the grey, cold but thankfully, calm North Sea. On our voyage Dave provided us with a running commentary on the wide variety of seabirds we saw, including rare Roseate Turns, Common Turns, Sandwich Turns and Kittiwakes as they swooped, dived, soared and in the case of Puffins, zoomed past inches from the surface of the water. Dave also gave us a brief history of the island and its association with Amble and the mainland and pointed out the numerous nesting birds and nesting sites as we circumnavigated Coquet. Many inquisitive Grey Seals poked their heads above the waves to observe the gaggle of photographers pointing lenses in their direction, sadly never venturing close enough to capture a descent shot. After a trip lasting an hour or so we returned to Amble Harbour where Jamie thanked Dave and his daughter for a wonderful experience. We disembarked and the 9 now seasoned "seadog's" become, once more, "landlubbers". Many thanks to 'Puffin Cruises' and thanks to those members who participated and supported the trip making it a 'fun' and exciting experience. Bob Finlay. (President)

This Thursday's (25th) evening 'walkabout' is to Durham Riverside. Those wishing to partake in a gentle stroll around this beautiful area of Durham with perhaps the added bonus of a photo or two and maybe a visit to a local alehouse to end the evening, should meet at Framwellgate Waterside at 7pm. Parking is free but limited.
As usual this is subject to favourable weather conditions so if possible check in with our Facebook page on Thursday to ensure it is going ahead. Bob Finlay. (President) Club Boat Trip
For those who have put their names down for the boat trip to and around Coquet Island, please find joining instructions below. Dave Gray's Puffin Cruises to leave Amble Harbour at 6pm on 28th May (weather & swell permitting). It is recommended that we meet at Amble Harbour at 5.30pm to await confirmation of sailing from the boat captain. If you wish to go on this trip and have not yet put your name down please contact either Colin Livingstone or Jamie Welsh ASAP. Please click (HERE) to be directed to the 'Puffin Cruises' website for more information. Today (Sunday 7th May) saw our second Sunday trip. The destination for today was Howick Hall Gardens. Twelve members plus one guest made the trip on what proved to be a rather chilly and blustery day.
We were treated to a guided tour of the beautiful and extensive gardens and grounds, with Penny, our guide, providing an excellent commentary on the history of the estate and its occupants, both past and present. Penny also imparted her extensive knowledge of the flora found at this time of year within the garden including Camellias, early Rhododendrons and Hellebores. A return visit in the summer when the gardens are in full bloom is definitely worth considering. Following our tour some members availed themselves of the famous Earl Grey Tea Rooms for a spot of light refreshment. Many thanks to all the staff at Howick Hall and a big thank you to all the CCC members who made the trip a success and for supporting the Sunday Walk program. Bob Finlay (President) For anyone wishing to attend Vince Rookers funeral the details are listed below.
