Mar 31st - Chris Crane Cup
Tonight saw the inaugural running of this competition.
Chris was a long serving member of Cramlington Camera Club. Sadly, Chris passed away last year. He was well liked, and well respected by all who knew him, and was always willing to pass his knowledge on to fellow club members. A true gentleman.
His partner, Anne, donated a trophy to the club, in honour of his memory, and this will now be contested on a yearly basis. Anne was in attendance throughout the evening, and commented that she would never have been able to pick a winning shot, as she loved each and every one.
The judge for the evening was George Ledger, DPAGB, who is a member of both Hexham and Consett camera clubs. He started the evening off by saying it had been very difficult to pick the winning shot, as all 51 images submitted, were really good.
Paul Murphys Daybreak At Blyth was the overall winner.
Runner up was Jim Meikles Cuillins At Dusk,
Third place went to Colin Livingstones shot, Buzzard.
The following members all received Highly Commended for their entries. Bill Leadbitter, Jamie Welsh, Lauren Clayton, and Julia Robson (x2) Many congratulations to those members too.
Lauren ended the evening off by thanking George for his hard work, and also said a big thank you to Anne Crane for donating the trophy, and attending this inaugural event. Paul will receive the trophy at our presentation evening on the 21st April.
Many thanks to ALL the members who submitted their images.

Mar 24th - 3rd Open PDI competition
The third and final Open PDI competition took place on the 24th March 2016, and a total of 21 members entered it. Once again, the diversity, and quality, of pictures were there for all to see.
The judge for this competition was Jim Welsh, LRPS, CPAGB, from Blyth Camera Club. He remarked that it had been a very hard competition to judge, owing to the high standard of the shots submitted. Throughout the evening, he gave his honest opinion on each image, and how they could have possibly been improved. His humour, was evident throughout, which seemed to be appreciated by all the members.
It was a personal triumph for Steven Morrison on the night, who took 1st and 2nd place. Well done Steven, and thoroughly deserved.
Lauren thanked Jim for his comments, and for keeping us entertained throughout the evening.
Many thanks to all the members who took the time and effort to submit their images for this competition, and many congratulations to all those placed and highly commended. Much appreciated.

Mar 17th - Gosforth Camera Club return visit
Last night we were entertained by Gosforth Camera Club, Introducing Harry McAtominey, Gosforth's President, Lauren expressed our anticipation at seeing their images and Audio visual display.
After a shaky start sorting out which PC to use Harry explained that the first couple of members were going to show using ;-
"Pecha Kucha". A quick fire system based on describing 20 images in 6minutes 40 seconds, for you maths buffs that's 20secs per image. So were off and running with a varity of images that showed not only photographic skills but also verbal alertness.
Then came some wonderful images of Cuba its culture, old American cars, street sellers and the people, very friendly and photogenic. Even the local police getting portraits taken.
An audio visual presentation took us from the ABC cinema, Haymarket circ 1950s western picture shows across the Atlantic to the town of Tombstone. Where we got the true history of the "gunfight at the OK corral". Now re-enacted three times daily.
Joan Hall followed with her presentation on "Fantasy Fashion" How she takes an idea or conception and with the use of mood boards develops her image. She showed us a behind the scenes series of images of her and her "team" in the waters of Jesmond Dean shooting "Weightless". with humorous anecdotes about wellies and waders and Ron Henry on lights.
David Brown closed the show with a compilation of images from Gosforths "wildlife" group including Morgan Stevenson and Peter Fawcett. Lots of beautiful birds, insects, flowers and the bright blue Damselfly.
Henry then thanked us for our hospitality and Lauren asked us to show our appreciation of there superb work.
Finally to the buffet for a chat and exchange of ideas.
Thanks to those who came in to help set up and sort out the food.

Mar 10th - John Webster, "Chasing the Light" Northallerton Camera Club
This week's meeting we had a presentation by John Webster - "Chasing the Light". John is a landscape and wildlife photographer with many awards and international acceptances. He was the first in the North East to be awarded the MPAGB.
John introduced himself and explained where he was taking us on his Audio/Visual journey.
John started his tour with Provence, with beautifully lit lavender fields in July, sunflowers and butterflies.
Canadian Dawn followed with mountain reflections in the lakes of the Rocky Mountains, Panoramas of Lake Louise and golden stands of Aspen.
Wild Birds of Britain introduced us to an array of splendid shots of our feathered friends of England. From the Little Owl to Kingfisher flying clear with his prey.
Then it was A Scottish Autumn, which included autumnal images of gorges, forests and waterfalls of Perthshire at its best. Including views of Loch Tummel from the same viewpoint as Queen Victoria is said to have stood.
The Northern Lights of Iceland ,Grand reflections of Kirkjufell mountain, and down to the lava beaches of Jokularsalon with mini icebergs washed up on the beach, to the 300ft Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
A Tuscan Impression showed us images of this beautiful region reminiscent of impressionist paintings with olive groves and terracotta villages in the sun.
John concluded his presentation with Seasons of Mist – stunning Lakeland scenes of Derwentwater and Buttermere in autumn.
Carefully chosen music accompanied his photographs, interspersed with snippets of poetry complimented the show, we expected a spectacular presentation of colour, light and atmosphere and were not disappointed.
John happily answered questions from our members before we had to say thank you for his inspiration.

Mar 3rd - 3rd Open print competition
Tonight was our last Open Print competition for the season, Overall a very good turnout from our members. Our judge this evening was David Hall from Gosforth Camera Club, David is one of only a handful of photographers who still work exclusively in the "Dark Room" producing Black and White.
With this in mind he set about judging our Black and white images with enthusiasm, He commented on colour and tone, the quality of some of the papers used and how they enhanced or detracted from the work. He found great difficulty separating the top two images and joked that "Walkies" only came second because he didn't have a dog. At one point even smelling the combination of ink and paper.
As he started on the colour section he did comment that he found this medium more difficult, and proceeded to talk in depth of the quality of our images. One of his comments, the use of A3 prints depicting small objects in narrow mounts, caused quite a stir with members. However his use of words like succulent, delicious, delectable, scrumptious and powerful were used to give credit to the authors.
Lauren thanked David for his hard work and then he stayed on for a while answering questions from members.
