Cramlington Camera Club 2nd Open PDI Competition 26th Jan 2017.
Tonight saw our club hold it's 2nd Open PDI competition, and the judge for the evening was Peter Yearnshire LRPS from Blyth Camera club. 71 images were submitted by the members, and Peter mentioned that he found it extremely difficult to pick 5 highly commended images and five placed images, owing to the standard of the shots. However, his final selections were as follows. 'Through Two Cameras'. Keith & Olive Robertson.
Last night guest speakers put on a great show. The Robertson's travel extensively and this was shown in the wide variety of locations of our world, from Cuba to Australia and from our own Lakeland national Park to Yellowstone National Park in the US. Through two cameras depicted the very different interpretation of our guest's views. From Keith's street life in Havana to Olive's portraits of the children, semi derelict churches on the prairie. A selection of shots from Tanfield, Koalas in Australia, geysers in Yellowstone, lakesides and even a motorcycle and sidecar. Both had been together but showed totally different work. Keith's photography developed from the background of sports for the Morpeth Herald, whilst Olive came to Photography later when she retired. In her own words, learning as we go, and experimenting in many aspects of work. Their method of presentation is interesting as they show three images together with anecdotes to tell the story of their travels. Taking turns and often interrupting each other get the location just right. All with good humoured banter. I for one thoroughly enjoyed the show and judging by the laughter and applause so did the rest of the members. Keith and Olive spent a few minutes answering questions and then we thanked for their time and entertainment. Colin Livingstone Secretary The 2nd Open Print Competition was held on Thursday 12th January 2017. The judge was Mr Will Ireland of Washington Camera Club who has over 40 years’ experience in photography. His experience is wide ranging from the dark room to Digital.
Will was introduced to the members by Jamie. Will thanked the Club for inviting him. He said he had a hard time picking a winner in both categories because of the high quality of the Prints. Will started with the Mono Prints and after showing and explaining how he thought some could possibly be improved, he presented his top five selection and those he thought warranted a highly commended mention. Reflected Beauty - Dawn Tweddell Dressing Up- Margaret Stephens Swan Tarn- Jamie Welsh Fountains Abbey- Jim Meikle The Fly- Alan Lockey Will talked about the Colour Prints and how hard it had been to select the winning prints. He gave his opinion on how certain prints could have been improved. He presented the Winning 5 Prints as follows:- 1) The Last Farewell- Jamie Welsh 2) Ullswater Reflection- Colin Livingstone 3) Birkenau Remembered Margaret Stephens 4) Unfurling Lilly Pauline Wilson 5) Woodpecker Margaret Stephens The Highly commended Prints are:- Doing the Books – Phil Tweddell Off Their Rockers – Jamie Welsh On The Hunt – J Meikle A Walk in the Park – Pauline Wilson Quack Louder I Can’t Here You – Bill Stephens Jamie thanked Will for his entertaining and humorous talk and asked the members to show their appreciation for Will in the normal way. At the end of the meeting Will talked to the members about their Prints and Photography. It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Ted Hodgson.
Ted passed away at 4.15 am yesterday morning (Monday 9th) at Wansbeck Hospital following admittance on Friday 6th January. Many of you will be aware of Ted's hard fought battle with cancer over a number of years. A battle to which he has now sadly lost to this cruel disease. Our thoughts go out to Ted's wife Kathleen, daughter Paulette and son in law Chris. For those wishing to pay their last respects details of Ted's funeral will be posted here when known. |
