Today (Sunday 7th May) saw our second Sunday trip. The destination for today was Howick Hall Gardens. Twelve members plus one guest made the trip on what proved to be a rather chilly and blustery day.
We were treated to a guided tour of the beautiful and extensive gardens and grounds, with Penny, our guide, providing an excellent commentary on the history of the estate and its occupants, both past and present. Penny also imparted her extensive knowledge of the flora found at this time of year within the garden including Camellias, early Rhododendrons and Hellebores. A return visit in the summer when the gardens are in full bloom is definitely worth considering. Following our tour some members availed themselves of the famous Earl Grey Tea Rooms for a spot of light refreshment. Many thanks to all the staff at Howick Hall and a big thank you to all the CCC members who made the trip a success and for supporting the Sunday Walk program. Bob Finlay (President)
