CHRIS CRANE CUP 23rd March 2017

Tonight saw the results of the Chris Crane Cup PDI competition, judged by Dave Illingworth from Morpeth Camera Club.

Dave, and his wife Elaine, were former members of Cramlington Camera Club, and were made more than welcome, especially as Elaine had been really ill for some time. It was really wonderful to see them both.

Dave said that, as expected, he had found it difficult to pick the winning images, and the 'Highly Commended', owing to the high standard of entries submitted by the members. Throughout the evening he kept us entertained with his humour, and also pointed out why he liked, or disliked the images on display.

In the end, he awarded 1st Place to Julia Robson's stunning shot of an Astrantia plant. Dave commented that the detail and colours in the shot were outstanding, and that's why had chosen it as the winning image. A very worthy winner indeed.  Alan Lockey's image of the Transporter Bridge was placed second, and Paul Murphy's Lubrication image, was placed third.
Dave also awarded 6 'Highly Commended' to the following members. Liz Lockey (x2) Ray Thompson (x2) John Ridley and Peter Moody.

At the end of the evening, Lauren thanked Dave for entertaining us, and judging our competition. She also thanked Chris Crane's wife Anne for presiding over the evenings events, and we look forward to seeing Anne at the presentation evening, to present the trophy to Julia.
ONCE AGAIN, many thanks to all the members for submitting their images. Much Appreciated.

Whitley Bay Photographic Society Exchange Visit

20/3/2017

Tonight (16th March) was an exchange visit from Whitley Bay Photographic Society.  In total, 10 members from Whitley Bay joined us for the evening with 6 of them giving presentations.

Four members showed a number of AV's in a range of different subjects including, 'The Views from my Front Room', 'Black and White', 'The Snowy Cheviots' and 'Graffiti Art of Camden' all of which had a great soundtracks from classical music, Queen and The Jam. Two other members showed us PDI images. The first being a travel log from Croatia showing the stark contrast between the beautiful landscape and scenery against the abandoned, derelict hotels and buildings that still remain after the war. The second being a series of landscape, seascape and beachscape photos taken at sunrise and sunset detailing a journey of learning photography and processing skills.

Afterwards tea, cake and nibbles were enjoyed by all as we chatted until late into the evening.

We look forward to welcoming Whitley Bay Photographic Society back to the club in the future.

Impromptu Members Night.

Due to a mix up with bookings we had an opportunity for our members to have an impromptu member's night.
Stepping into the breach came Bill and Margaret Stephens and Lauren Clayton.  A couple of others were willing but due to time limitations could not be fitted in.
Bill and Margaret did an excellent double act presentation of their photography.  Bill showing a variety of images from his many international acceptances and Margaret interspersing with her images from similar locations and still life. Bill went on to show his latest passion.  Turning his images into "works of art" with new filters.  Bill admits he would love to be able to use the brush and pallet but this medium gives him immense pleasure.  Margaret's favourite is still life and her images reflect the hidden artist in her work, always finding a new or different slant on the subject. she also give inspiration to members new to photography.  A very good presentation by them both.
Lauren Gave a presentation based around her visits to "Loud & Flashy" a studio in Ashington.  Where she has been learning lighting techniques and set ups.  Her presentation covered the various types of lights and the finished image.  One such "set" involving a paddling pool of cold water and a BIG bag of Glitter, which created some "Shimmering" shots.  Not always behind the camera Lauren also showed some images of her being roped in as "the model".
A big thank you to you all for saving the night and also those who missed out this time round.
Many thanks.
Colin Livingstone.
Secretary.
