The 2nd Open Print Competition was held on Thursday 12th January 2017. The judge was Mr Will Ireland of Washington Camera Club who has over 40 years’ experience in photography. His experience is wide ranging from the dark room to Digital.
Will was introduced to the members by Jamie. Will thanked the Club for inviting him. He said he had a hard time picking a winner in both categories because of the high quality of the Prints. Will started with the Mono Prints and after showing and explaining how he thought some could possibly be improved, he presented his top five selection and those he thought warranted a highly commended mention. The Top Five are,
Reflected Beauty - Dawn Tweddell Dressing Up- Margaret Stephens Swan Tarn- Jamie Welsh Fountains Abbey- Jim Meikle The Fly- Alan Lockey Will talked about the Colour Prints and how hard it had been to select the winning prints. He gave his opinion on how certain prints could have been improved. He presented the Winning 5 Prints as follows:- 1) The Last Farewell- Jamie Welsh 2) Ullswater Reflection- Colin Livingstone 3) Birkenau Remembered Margaret Stephens 4) Unfurling Lilly Pauline Wilson 5) Woodpecker Margaret Stephens The Highly commended Prints are:- Doing the Books – Phil Tweddell Off Their Rockers – Jamie Welsh On The Hunt – J Meikle A Walk in the Park – Pauline Wilson Quack Louder I Can’t Here You – Bill Stephens Jamie thanked Will for his entertaining and humorous talk and asked the members to show their appreciation for Will in the normal way. At the end of the meeting Will talked to the members about their Prints and Photography.
