Tonight we held a PDI battle and there were 55 images submitted for members to pick from. These were from a very wide range of subjects.
The two images that reached the final were Dragonfly by Abbie Moore and Eagle Eye by Adam Burness. The winner was Dragonfly. Well done Abbie! The images can be viewed clicking here Hi all,
Happy new year and I hope you are well. As most will know I’m coming off the committee at the end of the season. The reason I’m stepping down is I intend to push my own paid hobby ( kidd’s Photography) into a small business so I will be concentrating on that aspect. This will leave my position as programme Secretary open to all. I can help with the transition for a very short time if someone comes forward and shows an interest before the season ends. The role does involve a bit of work initially to get the programme organised and involves contacting people such as judges and arranging speakers etc, but then it’s easy for the rest of the season, so plenty of time to organise and spread the work for the following seasons events. Don’t forget you will also have help and advice from the rest of the committee. I’m happy to discuss this with anyone who may be interested. Thank you Paul Kidd. The slightly delayed first PDI battle was held with 47 entries which had a very wide range of subject material.
The competition was won by “Thirsty Bee” by Colin Byrne. Congratulation and well done Colin. The results were: Winner - Thirsty Bee by Colin Byrne 2nd - Long eared owl by Colin Livingston 3rd - Lossiemouth by Brian Sydney 3rd - Glenfinnan by Colin Livingston Congratulation to them and thank you to all the members who submitted image which made for an enjoyable night. Click here to North Tyne Inter Club competition held at Wallsend Camera Club, King Street Social club. The judge on the night was Jim Welsh LRPS,CPAGB,APAGB. All five clubs had representatives in attendance for this event. Bill Fell introduced the evening and welcomed everyone. He then went on to introduce the judge and handed over to Jim for his critique and comments on the images entered. Jim started off by saying how much he enjoyed the images entered and the diversity therein. He them went on to comment and give his appraisal of each image and there score. As usual the variety of images was varied and the scores reflected this. Most of our images received good comments but as Jim said they were up against stiff competition. Our highest score was given to “Brace Yourself” by Paul Kidd Overall winner was Gosforth with 227 points and the only club to receive a 30 point score with Reed Warbler by David Brown. Gosforth 227 Tynemouth 218 North Shields 214 Whitley Bay 212 Cramlington 199 The scores can be downloaded below.
We welcomed Sue Hingley from Whickham PS to our club in Thursday.
Sue was here almost 3 years to the day on her last visit, where she talked about her adventures in Vietnam, this time as she is mainly a travel photographer her images were from the south then Sue took us over to America and down to Cuba. Sue has a unique style of street photography and prefers to show the real life and how the people live in the not the tourist areas. Sue also prefers the square format and it compliments her style of photography. Sue also brought along some prints in square format for us to enjoy and was eager to answer any questions put to her. Sue also talked how joining the Camera club changed her style of photography and opened up new ideas and got her into street and people photography. Thank you Paul Kidd. We welcomed the talented David Brown from Gosforth camera club to the club on Thursday for his talk on walking the Northumberland Coast. He took us on a 97 mile trip from Newcastle to Berwick walking the along our magnificent coastline,
David told us how he handpicked his days to travel due to the weather conditions and used public transport where possible. He showed how magnificent our coast is and also showed some beaches and areas that only visible by walking. His talk was a mixture of landscapes and wildlife concentrating on wader birds, walking anything from 7 to 17mile per day. He talked about his style and techniques of taking the birds using a 400mm and 2x tele converter and keeping his body as low as possible while remaining still to allow the birds to come to him. He also had a selection of 15, bird prints that he used to get ARPS award just so the members could see first hand the kind of quality it takes to get this award. Although it was a long talk it was nice to see that most members stayed beyond 9pm to see the end and have a chat with him to edit. Paul Kidd and myself represented Cramlington CC at this event hosted by Gateshead Camera Club.
We were warmly welcomed by the members and the judge Keith Suddaby got the ball rolling with his introduction. First image up set the scene, ”Scottish Highland Patrol” a super sharp image of a pine martin in the woodland. This brought a gasp from the judge. The rest of the evening Keith commented on each image as he gave the scores. Some amazing images in there, Gosforth scored very highly all night their lowest score 27. This made them clear winners. Only 3 points separate the three clubs. Gosforth also gained two 30 point scores with wildlife images of an Osprey and Kingfisher. Final scores; Gosforth 286 Morpeth 258 Gateshead 257 Cramlington 255 Colin Livingstone Inter Club Secretary Sorry for the short notice but due to the limited number of entries for the PDI Battle that was due to take place this Thursday November 17th it has now been rescheduled to December the 8th.
