This week we held the Chris Crane Cup an annual event in memory of Chris.
This year’s judge was Joe Sheridan (F.D.A. BA (Hons) ARPS) from Washington. Joe started out by saying how difficult a task he had this year as the standard of images from our members was so high. In a change to the usual format Joe started off his comments/critique in his own humorous and jovial manner. With very positive things to say about all the images. The format change came as he announced 5 highly commended and the top five images at the end. The winning image being an excellent mirror reflection of a beached fishing boat, “Not a Reflection” by Bill Leadbitter. The judge was Stephen Fowler of Ryton & District Camera Club. He started by informing us that his style of judging was to give a wide variation of scores, and true to his word there were some surprises. Everything from 18 – 30. He actually gave four images 30 points, Mallard in Flight, Gosforth. Joey, Cramlington. January Dawn at Cullercoats, Gateshead and Too close for Comfort, Gosforth. Stephen’s critique was fair although some images which were given high praise scored low! As the competition moved on we were joint first with Gosforth at the 7th image on 222 points but sadly Gosforth stole the lead with the final image. Scores for Print leg
