A Brief History
The group was originally founded in October 1971, when the first ever Cramlington Camera Club Meeting was held at the Phoenix Lounge at Cramlington Community High School. The original fourteen members all met at Adult Education Classes at the school and through the Cramlington Adult Association - Cramlington Photographic Society was formed. The link between the two groups came to an end in 1973 and
Cramlington Photographic Society was now a completely free group.
From 1973, big changes occurred. The group moved to Cramlington Community Centre and regularly participated in inter-club competitions. In May 1986 the Club moved to The Women's Institute building in Cramlington Village. The group managed to secure a £5,000 donation from the National Lottery in January 2003, which was used to purchase new digital equipment and move the club forward into the coming digital age of photography.
To try to make the image of the group less formal and intimidating to new members the name of the group changed to Cramlington Camera Club in April 2004 and once again the venue for the club changed in September 2006 to the Methodist Meeting Rooms, Doxford Place, Cramlington.
This is where the club meets today (Thursday evenings at 7:30pm).
There have been 13 previous presidents of Cramlington Camera Club, with the 14th being the current president Bob Finlay.
